Chow Mein

Stir-fried noodles with crunchy vegetables and savoury sauce.

Origin & Story

Chow mein means 'stir-fried noodles' in Cantonese. Carried abroad by Chinese immigrants, it became one of the most recognisable dishes in the world while remaining a cheap home favourite.

Ginger

Fresh, zingy warmth in the aromatic base.

White pepper

Rounds out the savoury sauce.

Ingredients

  • 200g noodles
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oil

Method

  1. 01

    Boil the noodles, drain and set aside.

  2. 02

    Stir-fry garlic and ginger in hot oil.

  3. 03

    Add carrot and cabbage; toss on high heat.

  4. 04

    Add noodles and soy sauce.

  5. 05

    Toss until everything is coated and serve.
