Tacos are the cornerstone of Mexican street food, dating back to the silver mines of the 18th century. Bean tacos are the everyday, budget-friendly staple of home kitchens.

Main Spices & Their Role

Cumin

Gives the beans their earthy, savoury depth.

Smoked paprika

Adds smokiness and colour.

Chilli powder

For adjustable heat.

Ingredients

  • 1 can beans, drained
  • 4 small tortillas
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • Onion & coriander
  • 2 tbsp oil

Method

  1. 01

    Heat oil and add the spices for a few seconds.

    Add beans with a splash of water and mash lightly.

  3. 03

    Simmer until thick and season with salt.

  4. 04

    Warm the tortillas in a dry pan.

  5. 05

    Fill with beans, tomato, onion and coriander.
